Copan Ruinas go slow

Our friends John & Jane who we met whilst motorbiking back from Oz are really good at 'slow travelling'. We're not, but we're trying to get better at it.....
After looking at flight prices back to Miami for our return to London it seems that Costa Rica is way cheaper than all the other neighbouring countries. Funny, the most expensive country in the region is the cheapest, I'm sure someone clever can explain that to me. Anyway, we'll probably now not go to Panama or if we do  we'll do it by bus. Why am I rattling on about this? Well, because it means we need to slow down......

All this was going through my mind this morning as I was pulling on my Lindford Christie Lycra. We decided we could definitely afford another day here.
We've moved guesthouse to a cheaper nicer one. Kate couldn't resist the bar area

And I was getting tired of having to do yoga moves to get on the toilet. I seriously contemplated going 'reverse cow boy' on it but couldn't face hugging the cistern

So, another long lazy day in Copan. First we cruised the main square and watched them taking down the Christmas tree.

Then it was onto the local supermarket for a peruse.

I couldn't resist a can of this. It was disgusting!

Then to the museum where we spent a fair while reading let alone understanding some of these sentences. What is Patolli?

More cruising town

A bit of sitting on some very Flinstoneaque chairs (bloody uncomfortable) and of course Scrabble and then more Scrabble, then book reading then finally 5pm came and it was socially acceptable for a beer.

We did also go to a chocolate plantation. We had roasted cacao  beans covered in natural brown sugar (yummy) and a rather strange but very natural hot chocolate made from ground up roasted cacao beans and hot milk. It certainly didn't taste like a 'modern world' drink and made us realise how much flavouring & shite must go into what we'd call a nice one.

I think we'll leave tomorrow. Probably. Maybe.....

  1. Like the sound of slowing down and getting to know places a bit more. New hotel sounds like a great find and bar area looks like somewhere you could easily while away an hour or two. Anyone interesting stop by?

    1. Yep, we met a nice young Aussie couple who live about 5 mins from where we were in Austi. Also a nice Israali bird and the cafe owners were nice. Kate is happy in most bars these days....
